CHEMICAL OCEANOGRAPHY

(SPRING 2019, 42 STUDENTS)

Provided support during classes and held regular office hours to answer students’ questions. Created quiz and exam questions, and graded weekly quizzes. Covered oceanic element distributions, the carbon system, nutrient cycling, earth-ocean-atmosphere exchange, ocean and sediment redox chemistry.

INTRO TO MARINE SCIENCE LAB

(FALL 2018, 30 STUDENTS)

Provided support during lab sessions and held regular office hours to helps students with the calculation and interpretation of results. Graded weekly lab reports. Explored plankton communities, biomedical models, seawater transport and erosion, and salinity and density patterns.

STUDENT MENTORSHIPS

chelsea mclaughlin, master of professional science project

(spring 2020)

Helped her to design an experiment, collect data, run statistical analysis, and critique her final paper drafts.

Emily watkins, senior thesis

(Summer & Fall 2019)

impact/upward bound

(summer 2019)

Oversaw data collection and analysis while she assisted me with a part of one of my experiments and critiqued her thesis drafts.

Mentored 3 high school students from Title I schools in Miami-Dade County throughout a summer research project. Taught lessons on coral reef ecology and experimental design, guided the students through data acquisition and analysis, and oversaw the development and delivery of a final presentation.
